Art history shows that most printmaking techniques were invented and perfected for the purpose of reproducing images made by other means - such as painting. In this instance, it was watercolor painting that inspired the invention of aquatint etching. By using fine powdered or spray forms of acid resistant materials (rosin, asphaltum, lacquer, etc.) the plate would yield fine textures that would hold ink.Congrats!- GM |
