1982 - Locus and Sea Squares

Also known as the Cyanotype Commemorative, this poster was printed by offset litho - not cyanotype. I made the litho plates from my hand-drawn master negatives. To create the blended colors I worked with the plate maker and printer, plus I mixed the inks. Three sources gave me the image: A map of the Colorado River, a leaf-like diagram I used for computer animation, and the famous woodblock print by Hokusai (sometimes called The Great Wave). Asian cultures interest me. I was influenced by cartography in my early computer graphics work, and computer technology in general. I used names of my family and studio mates at Triangle Studios for the map features. Atomic Press printed eleven hundred posters printed in six-colors-tones of blue, overprinted with transparent gloss yellow inks on white paper. 40" X 24 3/4".
