Legacy Mini Halfwood Press No. 34

Ritchie's Comment: Walt Bailey exhibited his press, Legacy Model #34 in the "Small Is Beautiful" exhibit he curated at Baker University in September, 2008. The image above is of his displayed press in the show of my art which Walt arranged for me. He also set up five printing demonstrations in local schools and at the University--affording Lynda and me a train trip, a visit to Kansas and to enjoy Walt and Barbara Bailey's hospitality. This showing of my work was probably my last one exhibit opportunity, and I included several other people to participate including Walt himself plus owners of Halfwood Presses from the US and Chile. I gave a lecture at the end of the week which was about my plan to create a serious game based on printmaking, with Janet Fisher's demo DVD as a highlight.

Spiral, Triangle and Target, print by Bill Ritchie

Specifications: 2004. Monoprint. Aquatint, engraving. Black on white with chine-colle'd digital print artist trading card and 1999 Emeralda stamp. Image 11 3/4 X 5 7/8 in. on 12 1/2 X 6 3/4 Arches. Signed lower right.

Comment: In my files I found a folio of trial proofs from a 1968 print titled "Target I." I attacked the print with a sander, holding the sheet down on the sidewalk outside my studio as I ground the print down so it would blend with my new print and new images using chine-colle. My interest in Artist's Trading Cards and artiststamps and etching were joined in this artwork. Walt and Barbara bought this print, and over the time of the ensuing weeks, other artworks were purchased, too, plus two Legacy Mini Halfwood Presses and one by the University art department.
