"Dale at Caffe Vita - 2003"

Provenance: Print. Etching and drypoint. Black on Arches cover white paper, A/P of first state. Signed lower right.

Artist's comment: When I taught drawing at Shoreline Community College, I made sketchbook assignements, and I did the same as my students. I chose to draw people in the coffee shop across the street from the Mini Art Gallery called Caffe Vita. One of the regulars was a biker named Dale. Dale died young, so from the 2003 sketchbook drawing I made the etching from a scanned image of it, following the lightly-bitten lines with drypoint. Then I used it as the test plate for Mini Halfwood Press #42, shown in the YouTube video is below. The original plate and a print of it is in the Collection of Masami Teraoka (owner of the press shown) who lives in Hawaii, 2009; later, Kimberly and Paul Mayer, added it to their collection in 2013.
