Mini Halfwood Press #80, black lacquered model
Specifications: 2010. Mini Halfwood Press. Serial No. 60080. Specifications: Rollers are 1.5 x 5.75 inches top and bottom. The bed is 1/4 x 6 x 17 inches in polycarbonate (the standard); overall length is 17.5 inches; overall width is 9 inches; overall height is 10 inches; weight, 12 lbs.; drive wheel is 8 inches diameter in stainless steel; the black lacquered woods are birch base with ipe inlay and cladding the steel, mahogany hood capped with ipe. Red coats of lacquer preceded the black so, when rubbed out, some red shows through. The instrument box is lacquered poplar and baltic birch trimmed in ipe. Included are felt blankets, copper plate, Allen Wrench, User's Manual and DVD.
Artist's comment: Wil emailed me in 2009 with his interest in a Halfwood. He reserved Mini #74. Then, Pete--Joan Grimord's husband--wrote asking if anyone was willing to trade timetables so he could give it to her for Christmas. Wil stepped up, moved to number to 80 and waited. What a guy! Then, in 2011, his studio burned and the press went with it. We started a Kickstarter campaign, offering Wil's reproductions. (see below) It didn't reach the goal in time, but in 2014 there is second attempt to raise funds to replace his press. This was successful, thanks to other owners of Halfwood Presses and our friends.
