1963 - Four Pheasants

I lived on my father's farm near Wapato in the Yakima Valley until I went to college, and in the winter, pheasants would fly up into the leafless trees to roost at night. At dusk I could see them profiled against the gray sky. Hoar frost covered the ground in the winter and it was gray everywhere in the valley. In art school learned screen printing from Reino Randall at Central Washington State College, and I made this print for my graduate show in the spring. The original print is 19" X 14", printed in the colors of gray, brown, orange, green, on white 22" X 18"  sulfite paper. The artiststamp, left, was made from No. 5 in the edition of 15.
