1975 - Spaceship Crash Stamps - "Mill"

On a hexagon-patterned envelope (made from my famous hexagon drawing pads) I mailed this stamp from Japan to Triangle Studios as "Harris Sweed", with the return address, "Mill" Ritchie, Tokyo. I played on the fact that my Japanese name (given to me by Michitaka Nakahara) might be pronounced either Mill or Bill. The Number 3 stamp is in burnt sienna color, and is accompanied by Japanese postage stamps. The original is an intaglio stamp printed from copper that I etched and engraved. The size averages 1 1/4" X 1 7/8" and the color is burnt sienna on Japanese Etching paper chine-colle'd on thin antique Asian paper. The stamp was hand perforated with a tool designed using a flea comb. The stamps come from a variable edition of photo-etchings. See the full image of the envelope.
