Little Spaceship Crash - Experimental proof
Provenance: 1977. Print. Intaglio, relief, stencil, litho. Colors uncertain at this writing but may have been ochre, red, blue, black, gray. Image 12 X 9 in on 15 X 11 3/4 in Van Gelder Zonen (natural, buff) paper. No.2/9/77II Exp/Imp 4. Signed lower right.
About Linda Farris: Linda Farris died in 2005 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 61. Regina Hackett, journalist for the Seattle PI, wrote: "As an art dealer from 1970 to 1995, she was largely responsible for turning Pioneer Square into Seattle's contemporary art center. After she closed the gallery that bore her name, she went on to assemble an international collection of the work of young artists through what she called the Contemporary Art Project. . . ."
Artist's Comment: Spanning two years of development and about 75 impressions, Little Spaceship Crash was the seed for a larger work. These came out of the movie, Planet of the Apes. I like to tell the story about the path flown by the helicopter filming it, and then my entry into computers graphics and how I learned the X-Y-Z of IT. This print was test of methods I would need for a larger version, then the tests resulted in an edition that stood on its own. This particular print was a radical departure from the editioned prints and I submitted it to the Davidson Galleries Foot Print show, where it was awarded a prize and purchased by Linda Farris, renouned art dealer who passed away in 2005.

Wave Square School Scroll
Catalog number: pr790911rit.
Wave Square School Scroll. 1979, Print. Sienna intaglio ink and Chine Colle printed from etched copper plate. Image 24 1/4" x 11 1/2" on kitikata paper, gold infusion paper with Van Gelder Zonen buff paper for backing. 12" x 9" plate mark. Signed lower right.
Artist's comment : The original composition was commissioned and published by Sam Davidson, Seattle, titled Wave Square School. After the edition for Sam Davidson Galleries, I experimented with different papers and printing methods. The gold infusion paper and my interest in Asian scrolls inspired the scroll version. It was very hard to print, and I made only five. Printed at Triangle Studios, Seattle, WA. Exhibited at Davidson Galleries and Erica Williams/Anne Johnson Galleries, Seattle, WA. Variations of the scroll’s states, trial proofs, and artists' proofs are in private collections in Seattle including Davidson Galleries, Mary Herrmann, Pam and Paul Lewis , Lynda Ritchie (gifted to Matilda Bryan), Billie Jane Bryan and Nellie Sunderland. 1979 valuation $320.00 unframed. Insurance value $600.
