Bill Ritchie's art in Washington State
last known to be in
the
Carolyn Law & Andy Weisbecker Collection
Target Stamp Study
Provenance: 1971. Lithograph. Black, gray, silver, creamy white. Image approx. 10 X 10 in. on 13 3/4 X 12 3/4 in. Rives BFK paper. Edition of 20. Signed lower right. See also the Richard Adatto collection.
Artist's statement: As it was with the drawing that preceded this print, there was an image of a sheet of stamps that obsessed me. I wanted to make it large, and then reduce it down through one of the photo processes I was experimenting with.
Note: the actual print in the Law-Weisbecker collection
is not
available for photo at this time but this is a reasonable facsimile.
Little Spaceship Crash
Provenance: 1977. Print. Intaglio, relief, stencil, litho. Colors uncertain at this writing but may have been ochre, red, blue, black, gray. Image 12 X 9 in on 15 X 11 3/4 in Van Gelder Zonen (natural, buff) paper. No. 35/35. Signed lower right.
Artist's Comment: Spanning two years of development and about 75 impressions, Little Spaceship Crash was the seed for a larger work. These came out of the movie, Planet of the Apes. I like to tell the story about the path flown by the helicopter filming it, and then my entry into computers graphics and how I learned the X-Y-Z of IT. This print was test of methods I would need for a larger version, then the tests resulted in an edition that stood on its own.

About Caroyln Law: In the early 1970s she was a graduate printmaking student at the UW School of Art. She received her MFA in 1975, and then established Triangle Studios along with a classmate, Norie Sato. The two attracted five more artists to their cooperative studio in the Prefontaine Building near downtown Seattle. She remained with Triangle Studios until the mid-1980s. She and her husband Andey still work and lives in Seattle.
