Brian's Galleon Halfwood Press
Specifications: Made in 2012. Galleon Halfwood Press. Serial No. 90012. Specifications: Roller diameter 2 1/4" x 9" long, top and bottom. Bed is 5/16" polycarbonate, 9" x 26". The overall length is 27"; overall width is 13 3/4"; overall height is 15". Weight is 50 lbs.; Drive wheel is 12" diameter stainless steel. The bed is rack-driven, approximating a 3:1 mechanical advantage. Wooden parts are American black walnut with wenge interlayering. The pressure screws are linked and synchronized. The press included three etching felts, user's manual and plus PressGhost memory and USB extension cable for connecting to a computer.

Specifications: Made in 2014. Mini Etching Press. Serial No. m60019. Specifications: Top and bottom rollers are 1.5 x 6 and 5.5 inches. The bed is 1/4 x 6 x 14.5 inch polycarbonate with steel rack; overall length is 15 inches; overall width is 9 inches; overall height is 10 inches; weight, about 13 lbs; hand-welded stainless steel drive wheel is 8 inches diameter. Bed is rack-driven, approximating a 3:1 mechanical advantage. Wood is solid American black walnut. Pressure screws are linked and synchronized. Includes two etching felts, user's manual and tools for assembly.
Designer's comment: B. H. Giza first saw the Halfwoods online in 2010 and wrote to express his interest and I followed his links to his work with ballet, portraits of dancers. I was able to look at his work in an online trifold brochure. His plan to use a mobile printing press on site led him to order his Galleon Halfwood Press in 2013. The next year, 2014, his plans for being a busker-etcher on the road brought him to buy the DIY Mini Etching Press, too. He said he wanted to, ". . .use this project to learn and understand the machine, e.g.: the rack and drive elements and a DIY kit will certainly do that!"
