Passive and active sides for Jo Tyler's White Galleon Halfwood Press
Galleon Halfwood Press No. 22
Ritchie's comment: In March, 2015, Jo received her first Halfwood Press, the DIY Mini Etching Press, shown below. She painted it white. By October she was ready to go for a larger press, so after a few emails to get more information about the Halfwood Line, she settled on the Galleon. Again, she wanted it to be white; and with my partners, Tom and Margie, we finished a Galleon all in white. It was to be, "The best Christmas present - ever!" By coincidence, she has the serial number 22 of both her white Halfwood Presses.
White Galleon Halfwood Press specifications: Custom made in 2015. Serial No. 90022. Roller diameter 2 1/4" x 9" long, top and bottom. Bed is 5/16" polycarbonate, 9" x 26". The overall length is 27"; overall width is 13 3/4"; overall height is 15". Weight is 50 lbs.; Drive wheel is 12" diameter stainless steel and drives gears (concealed) and with rack-driven bed, approximates a 12:1 mechanical reduction. Solid American black walnut with epoxy white paint overall. The pressure screws are linked and synchronized. The press included three etching felts, user's manual, assorted small parts, Allen wrench set, the designer's paperback semi-fiction book, "Halfwood Press: The Story," and USB PressGhost.
We were so pleased with the press that we used it for our Christmas card.

Ritchie's comment: Jo sent an email in February, 2015, commenting on the presses she saw online, and after several exchanges comparing the Pram and the Mini Etching Press, she opted for the unfinished DIY Mini Etching press so that she could have a white press, and by ordering the DIY she could paint it white. Afterward she sent a photo of her finished press.
